Can you answer yes to at least one of the following:

  • Are you with not being able to open the PMID or DOI link in Connotea in a new tab?
  • Do you ignore evil tongues questioning the necessity for following a DOI when you have the bookmark?
  • Do you want an extension for Mozilla/Firefox?

Never mind you - I say YES! to all. Putting time where my mouth is, I took the excellent Mozilla Handle/DOI Protocol Handler extension - written by Mark Donoghue - and modified it appropriately. My Firefox now gives me the expected pages when I ask the browser to open one of those info:pmid/2458293 or info:doi/10.1111/j.1432-0436.1988.tb00724.x in a new tab or window.

If you want the same degree of happiness, install my nice little Mozilla Connotea Info Protocol Handler. If you want Mozilla/Firefox to handle DOIs or Handles, you need to install Marks extension.

Maybe the extension will be updated in the future, maybe not.

Download

The extension can be installed form here: Mozilla Connotea Info Protocol Handler

Sorry, but no fancy installer here - simply download the file and open it using File -> Open File (or Ctrl-O) and installation should start.

Other cool stuff

well, the Mozilla Handle/DOI Protocol Handler extension is nice. Pubconn is also a quite cool extension for firefox to enhance the Connotea happiness.
